We all loved science in some way when we were kids, whether it was building a makeshift volcano out of dough and making it erupt with baking soda and vinegar, or dissecting a frog. But, for some, they become addicted to learning and find their passion in the field of science leading to the following jobs below that can uh, kill ya. Those of you still in school may want to reconsider your future line of work because while the money will rain if you work in these fields, it really can be a killer lifestyle.

Astronaut
*Since manned spaceflight began in 1961, 24 US astronauts have died in astro-action — 10 during launch, six during training flights, and seven on reentry. In 1971, three Soviet cosmonauts suffocated when a malfunction caused the oxygen to leak out of their ship. Then there's that whole riding-an- explosion-into-space thing. And we haven't even found aliens yet.

Biosafety Level 4 Lab Researcher
*BSL-4 labs handle the deadliest diseases on Earth. In 2004, a Russian scientist died after accidentally sticking herself with an Ebola-laced needle. The death occurred only months after a US scientist at the Army's BSL-4 lab at Fort Detrick in Maryland made the same mistake... and survived.

Hurricane Hunter
*The Air Force's 53rd Weather Reconnaissance Squadron crew members are the daredevils of meteorology. They fly WC-130s into a hurricane's eyewall, 10,000 feet up, to locate the storm's pressure center and measure its wind speed. Not surprisingly, some get a little turned around. Even on the ground, they're not safe — Hurricane Katrina destroyed the squad's home base.

Propulsion Engineer
*Turns out, the people who ground-test rocket engines don't actually worry about explosions. When you work with cryogenic oxygen and gases pressurized up to 300 psi, you're far too busy worrying about "cold burns" and other trauma to really give proper consideration to what might happen should one of the buggers completely ignite.

Volcanologist
*Active volcanoes blow enough ash to bury a city the size of, oh, Pompeii. No wonder many volcanologists don't come back from their helicopter visits to hell. In 1991, three were killed by Japan's Mount Unzen. In 2001, one died after falling off a 985-foot-high caldera rim, and in 2005, four Filipino researchers died in a chopper crash while inspecting landslide areas.

Biologist
*Animal research can lead to more than an allergic reaction. Being bitten, scratched, or exposed to "secretions" can be deadly. For example, at least 70 percent of captive adult macaque monkeys are infected with herpes B. In 1997, a 22-year-old researcher died after contracting the virus from some "biologic" monkey material that got in her eye.

* - Written by Erin Biba of WIRED Magazine.

Lambo Rambo - The Superleggera

Saw this new metallic toy in one of my latest magazines. They nickname it the "Lambo Light." What's it remind you of? If you guessed a Gallardo with some new rims and a wing slapped on it, you're pretty close.

The Gallardo has been the Lamborghini of choice by many music artists and athletes alike. I myself have mistaken the Gallardo to be Lambo's top of the line car, but to anyone's surprise it's not; the Murcielago is.

So what's different about this smokin gray metallic Gallardo, aside from it looking like it's about to fly? First off, Superleggara translated from Italian to English means "superlight." It comes in at about 185 pounds lighter, thanks to carbon fiber replacements of some parts. It also gets a 10hp boost bringing it to 530 ponies. So how much faster do these modifications make it? It shaves .2 seconds off it's 0-60mph time. That may seem like a little, but I'm guessing the quarter-mile tests later on in the year will reveal more about the car. After all, it's costing 27 grand more than the original Gallardo!

Ya want one? Well, like all good things in life, you must wait because the original 350 of this year's supply has been nabbed by the millionaires who got wind of it first.

Things to note:
Price: $215,000
5.0-liter, 530-hp V-10 engine producing 376-lb.ft. of torque
60 MPH in 3.8 seconds, Top speed of 195mph.

Additional Photos:

Party like a what? It specializes primarily in screen-printed T-shirts, some hoodies, womens shirts and numerous other accessories. It's logo features a rooster-like cock with a star as its tail giving it its flair.

A Cockstar is defined as:
1. He is a native of Orange County, California. He practices Muay Thai (kickboxing). His musical interests are: Punk, Alternative, ROCK, Metal, Slow Jams, Reggae, Hip-hop. He can also be found in the music videos for Papa Roach and Simple Plan, but most of all he's open to almost all genres. And he's only 25 years old. What a mark of success...

Why the feature?

Cockstar Army has engulfed most of the pacific west-coast, primarily Southern California scene. It's founder Dru in the picture with the Lamborghini Gallardo he actually owns has made quite a small fortune to my understanding. The original caption on that photo found on his MySpace reads: "And to think I used to dream about this when I was a kid..."

Dru and his crew have it made, while the rest of us can only dream. The motto he lives by goes a little something like this: "Party like a rockstar, spend like a movie-star, fuck like a pornstar."

Surely enough he has come nothing short of that, as evidenced by the many photos on his MySpace. He has mingled with the likes of Travis Barker, Cassie, Fergie, Paul Wall, UFC fighters, and JESSICA ALBA!!! All of these movie-stars are in addition to the many go-go dancers and established import models he already knows.

Whether Cockstar Army moves into the mainstream, we have yet to know, but it's good to know the little guys come up big, too. We'll keep you posted on any significant events/products from them and hopefully we'll get a more in depth look at how it all began when Dru gets back to us for an interview out of his busy life as the ultimate Cockstar.

Interested in some of the apparel or the label and its founder? Check out the website located at www.CockstarArmy.com.

In the meantime don't sit on your dreams. Make them happen! You've gotta have a college degree, or is in the process of receiving one.

The original video that started it all has received an astounding response of over 10,000 submissions to the group on YouTube.

I'm not sure whether Diddy's current assistants have gone through all 10,000+ of those submissions. Diddy's asking for more videos, I presume. So, for those of you who have a genuine interest to partake in an opportunity of a lifetime, please make a video and submit it.

The last time I was able to bring you some of the cream of the crop from the first batch of submissions. I'll be updating this post with more interesting and funny submissions.

One thing to note is that Diddy and his people aren't going to be the ones filtering the best from the worst, it is going to be the YouTube community. Anybody and everybody can be a winner here. Once a video gets enough good feedback then I guess Diddy and his personnel with begin the real interview process over YouTube for all to see. Anyone and everyone's got a shot. This is about a young man who is only 20 years of age, named Brandon Fletcher.

He inspired me, so I hope he will inspire you all as well.

Brandon is a producer. He utilizes the YouTube or free online video sharing medium to distribute his creation.

On April 1, 2007, Brandon woke up and made his first post, titled "The Mission" on his new blog, Can YouTube Hear Me? The first line of the post reads; "Today is the day that I get up and become the catalyst for my own dreams." How often do you hear someone say that, let alone a 20-year old?

Brandon documents his journey with this blog located at www.CanYouTubeHearMe.com. He makes a bold attempt at trying to get his idea heard by editors at YouTube and even makes the trip out from his hometown of New York all the way to Northern California. This was after all the email attempts he's made, only to find himself hitting dead ends.

To find out what Brandon has created/produced, visit www.CanYouTubeHearMe.com. Brandon's inspiration comes from Aaron Stanton, the creator of www.CanGoogleHearMe.com. Aaron documented his journey to get a big company, like Google to hear about a great idea, from a little-guy like himself. Aaron had no actual company, no employees, only an idea in his head. He made the trip from Idaho to Mountain View, California and sat in the Google lobby until someone heard him out. He also met a lot of interesting people in his journey and is currently working to get his project rolled out WITH Google.

Most of us, are little guys and we feel that our voices are never loud enough to be heard. Well, sometimes you get noticed when you travel the road less traveled. Sometimes you get heard when you move out of your comfort zone. Sometimes you get heard when you do something you've never done before. We're never too young, or too old to take charge of our own lives. This is why I have created this blog. Reign is defined as the exertion of control over something. Rain is defined to be precipitation, normally in the form of water, but applies to other things as well. So, with that in mind, I define RAIGN as having the power or control over your own precipitation, whether it be money, happiness, or anything else you may desire. Thanks for reading.

<link rel='alternate' type='text/html' href='http://makeitraign.blogspot.com/2007/07/can-youtube-hear-me-can-google-hear-me.html' title='Can YouTube hear me? World renown stars from Lil Wayne, Kanye West, Pharrell Williams, all the way to David Beckham have garnered BAPE on their frames. The ape and camouflage are it's most notable design.

What does it mean?

It is short for a Japanese saying "a bathing ape in lukewarm water." It is a reference to a generation that is young, spoiled, and complacent. (Lorraine Hahn, Talkasia)

Who's behind it?

Nigo, as the world knows him, keeps almost all personal aspects of his life well-guarded. His real name is Tomoaki Nagao. He founded A Bathing Ape in 1993, which began as a small store in trendy Harajuku, Japan.

Prior to opening up shop, Nigo was a student, magazine stylist, and a DJ. Creating and designing BAPE was totally a side job and hobby. When the time came, back in '93, he found a store owner who allowed him to borrow 4 million yen to start the business. Surprisingly, that same store owner leased the store to him as well. Little did Nigo know, would soon be repaid in a year's time.

When he first started producing shirts, he would make 50, give 30 away to friends and put 20 up for sale. It made zero business-savvy whatsoever. Therefore, the exclusivity of the brand was totally unintentional. The reason he didn't produce a large supply of each design was that he did not want everyone wearing the same clothes. Economics went into play to turn Nigo and his brand into a phenomenon. It wasn't long before magazines began calling him the boom of backstreet Harajuku fashion, and iconic (Lorraine Hahn, Talkasia).

What has his fame and fortune afforded him?

Nigo admits that he is quite materialistic, as the things he collects are an inspiration for new designs. He says that if all his collections were taken away from him, it'd be his end. He is known in Japanese as an "otaku" -- a collector. He collects guitars, cars, watches, action figures, art, and a host of other things which are worth millions.

In his home, he's got cars in their own rooms sitting on the hardwood floors. His car collection includes multiple Rolls Royce Phantoms, a Bugatti Veyron ($1.8 million car - fastest and most expensive street car built to date), Porsches, Ferraris, you name it. He collects things related to Star Wars and has a huge admiration for George Lucas' hands-on and 100% control approach to his franchise.

What is the current state of BAPE?

Nigo still owns 100% of the company and has full artistic control over each design. BAPE currently has 33 stores across Japan and numerous other stores across Asia, Europe, and the US, in cities like London and New York. He also operates a BAPE music label, cafes, and hair salons.

Pharrell Williams has collaborated with Nigo to produce his own ever so-popular and ultra-exclusive/ultra-expensive lines of Apparel Billionaire Boys Club and Ice Cream.

He has collaborated with the likes of Kanye West and other American hip-hop artists to produce music for his BAPE music label.

So, what's next?

Nigo wants to open up a "lifestyle" hotel. A hotel, that embodies "cool," separating itself from all the rest. Nigo likes to do things his own way, and cares little for the criticism from others. To each his own, Nigo!

Additional Photos:
A more familiar brand utilizing the word couture in the label is "Juicy Couture." Most women with a sense of fashion know what that is.

Prettiest Gangster Couture is "Crystal by the Cases'" or Crystal's second plunge into the world of fashion, but this time strictly just womens-wear. The image to your left is actually Crystal getting comfortable with her favorite champagne.

Why is she being featured?

Crystal is a VIP in the Las Vegas scene. She does it big. She doesn't just reside where the action is. She lives in the action in a suite in the Palms Casino and resort. She is a permanent resident there.

At the age of 19, Crystal and a partner wanted to start a documentary about the lifestyles of the young, rich, and famous. We now have Paris Hilton and she probably would've found her way in the documentary if it were ever produced. The title for the gig before any production was to begin was "Beverly Hills Pimps and Hos".

They began to produce a marketing campaign before the documentary. Promotional hats and t-shirts were made to help spread the word. They began to tell others about them and before they knew it, everybody wanted the trucker-style hat that read "got ho's?" on it. The promo hat alone was being called "The Hottest Hollywood Must Have Item." That became the inception of the Beverly Hills Pimps and Hos brand. Their primary niche was the Hollywood celebrity. It was a cross between "rock" and "hip-hop". Their original street campaign had a poster with Crystal bearing the hat and one of their signature shirts with cash piled in front of her plastered all over Los Angeles. Crystal says that it was one of the most memorable moments of her life. She is no longer with BHPH as she is developing for her own brand now after being able to make incredible amounts of money, partying with celebrities, and living the life.

Crystal describes herself as a proven winner and she's running with it. That's why she came up with the idea of her own clothing label. The launch of the first couple of products is expected to be released late this summer or early fall. While there is no store setup, there are a couple of small photos displaying what the items look like on the website located at www.PrettiestGangster.com. Crystal's not an actual gangster, so one need not be afraid. Her line is described as the embodiment of originality, respect, love, power, money, success, fame, and glamor. It is also an attitude with a combination of style and taste, not for just any pretty face. We'll keep you posted on the actual release of the line and Crystal's status. Natalise is currently a recording artist, musician, record label owner, songwriter, publisher, and actor. What makes Natalise special? For starters, she is Asian-American and it is far more difficult for people of color to break into mainstream entertainment, but she is definitely paving way.

Natalise resides in Burlingame, California, located in the Bay Area between San Francisco and San Jose. She attended Stanford University and graduated in 2005 with a degree in Communication. She made a pact with her parents, that if she graduated in 3 years from Stanford, she could pursue her dream of having a musical career.

She began her music career a long time ago, but the first time anyone took notice to her music was back in 2002 when she had a single titled "Love Goes On" placed on a CD called "Import Jams" with various artists. She's come a long way since then and is currently promoting her second album, titled "I Came to Play." While she does not have mainstream popularity yet, despite being featured on MTV, MTV Chi, the WB, UPN, and ABC, she's definitely made her mark with DJ's across the nation who have sampled her music and thrown it into their mixes and jams.

She recently started her own music/recording label titled Stars823. The biggest reason for this huge step was because it was the only way she could do an album that she was backing 150%. She's currently on a daily grind making phone calls, writing emails, and making daily business decisions. Her work ethic is unrivaled when it comes to her career. She puts her music under the genre of "Indie" and while most people don't tackle every aspect of the music, business, and marketing, Natalise does.

Natalise is still very very young, but very promising. We'll keep you updated on her status and conduct a personal interview with her down the line, with questions YOU want answered.

Learn more about Natalise, her music, her career, and her music label (Links):
http://www.natalisemusic.com/
http://www.myspace.com/natalise

Photos:

Take the Hop out of Barhop - Microsoft Surface

Your bar experience may just be getting the most exciting face-lift ever!

Now picture this: imagine yourself at a lounge you frequent, sitting in your favorite spot. The joint is packed and you can't seem to wave down a waiter or bartender to service you, and they just can't seem to keep track of who's who and who came in first. But, suddenly you notice a new table in front of you and it's glowing with animation. The first thing you and anybody else does is touch the surface. Immediately, the screen changes before you materializing into a graphically enhanced menu, detailed with all the available drinks and even has a sound effect. It then says "what would you like to order, today?" You and all your friends are now in awe. Then everyone else who hasn't placed their hand on the table begins to do so and their own menu's come up. Cool ain't it?

Think about all the possibilities. Forgot to bring a deck of cards? Not a problem, it's got a deck of cards build into it with a host of other amazing applications and interactive drinking games. King's Cup anyone?

I now introduce to you, the Microsoft Surface. It was originally unveiled by Microsoft's CEO Steve Ballmer at the All Things Digital Conference in May. It is able to recognize objects from a paintbrush to all your digital hand held gadgetry. What limited you on your personal computer at home was a mouse that allowed you to do maybe just one or two things at a time. This definitely broadens the horizons of the computing experience. Now with this new hands-on experience you can have direct control over the photos in one of your gadgets, as well as music, maps, files, and almost anything else you can think of that's on your computer today.

The Microsoft Surface is however aimed at commercial venues including hotels, bars, lounges, retail stores, restaurants, and other entertainment venues. So if you want this as your coffee table, you may just have to wait a bit or check out the Mitsubishi Diamondtouch, that is in development right now.

Now, enough of my blabbering, the video definitely does a better demo of what I've described, so here it is:

Aye Matee, Ye New Pirate Ship

The captain of this ship? His name is Tom Perkins, a Silicon Valley venture capitalist. Where did his fortune come from? The early investments in Genentech, Netscape, and Google. He's made a huge fortune and certainly has something to show for it, because not anybody can build a mega-yacht yanking $130 million from the bank. This yacht is the first of its kind. When most people think of large yachts, they don't have sails, but this one does. It is called the Maltese Falcon, and spans 289 feet in length. This thing is an engineering marvel because it is the biggest, riskiest, fastest, and the most technologically advanced, single-hulled sailing mega-yacht in the entire world. There are no ropes for the operation of its 26,000 sq. ft. of sail. This yacht has 3 towering 192-foot masts, with walls constructed of carbon fiber to reduce weight and endure stress that many metals cannot. The masts also have tiny fiber optic sensors embedded in them relaying the amount stress each mast is receiving as a necessary precaution. Those masts aren't light and could be catastrophic if rising problem is not detected. The yacht has a good number of microprocessors, that are linked to 131,000 feet of hidden cable and wire. There are a total of 75 motors all synchronized by computer. Perkins stated in Wired Magazine that he didn't want electronics governing every process, so it wouldn't be sailing by computer. "No way Bill Gates is controlling my boat." (Wired Magazine - 2007) Check out the additional pictures of this marvel of modern day yachting and then drool (=

A Little Humor for the Day: CHUCK NORRIS STOPPED...

"Chuck Norris had to stop washing his clothes in the ocean because the tsunamis he created were killing too many people."

Wanna kick ass without ripping a gaping hole for a great view of your pink boxers? If you get them dirty, that's okay, too, just hop into the nearest pool and do a couple of roundhouse kicks while you're in it. You'll be sure to make waves.

OPPORTUNITY CALLS: Diddy Drops a Ball

Looking for your dream job? This just may be it, if the title of "Diddy's Assistant" floats your boat. Diddy is looking for a new assistant and what better way to do it than on one of the world's largest internet video communities? Yeap, you guessed it, on YouTube. Don't mind getting an earful, sleepless nights, and a lot of work? This is definitely not a job for the faint of heart if you've ever tuned in to watch "Making the Band." If your looking for your ticket into the music and entertainment industry, what better way is there than networking through an entertainment mogul? I'm gonna let Diddy do the rest of the talking on for this post. I've recently read a book called "The 4-Hour Workweek" by Timothy Ferriss and in it he speaks about a different outlook for the way one leads his or her life. He discusses the idea of working your entire life. It's really not as bad as it sounds, but he talks about living wherever he wants and taking trips every couple of months. He leads a life no other person I know does. He runs his own business and used to work around the clock to keep it afloat. What he brings into the picture is the idea of "outsourcing" aspects of your life. He has someone who manages all his monthly bills, ensuring there are no errors to hiring people to find a life-partner (wife or girlfriend). If you find this interesting, you may want to pick up his book at a local bookstore or check some pages out on Amazon.

What I want to introduce to you in this post are two individuals who run two websites you may be pretty familiar with, but had no idea who was behind them:

1. PerezHilton.com

His name is Mario Lavandeira (born March 23, 1978). He studied acting in college and wanted to get into acting. That brought him to Los Angeles, California. Fortunately or unfortunately for him, that never panned out. The natural thing for him to do was become a publicist and that easily turned into journalism. He began blogging soon after "because it seemed easy". When he first started his website it was located at pagesixsixsix.com. His notoriety came fast as he updated his blog with hot celebrity gossip. It wasn't long after its first couple of months before The Insider named the site "Hollywood's Most Hated Website." After The New York Post sued him, he changed the name to PerezHilton.com and now writes under this alter-ego. He also claims that it helps him sleep at night, too. You may not think celebrity gossip is serious, but it has become serious biz for him. A reason for the blog's popularity is that his material is seen by him firsthand or that it comes from extremely reliable sources. What separates him from other celebrity gossip bloggers is that he actually attends some of the events, travels the world, and pours his life into the site. It may not seem like it writing a couple lines and throwing up a picture, but good material is hard to find. While we can understand why he gets so much criticism. There's no such thing as bad press right? That's about certainly right, when your website is getting about 4.5 MILLION hits a day and you're able to charge 9 grand a week for a small ad spot on the site in addition to other advertising streams of revenue.

2. HYPEBEAST.com

The skinny (from HypeBeast.com): Kevin Ma was born in 1982 and was raised in Vancouver, Canada. While attending university, he created Hypebeast.com on January 15th, 2005. Little did he know that Hypebeast.com would grow into a global phenomena. Other than that, Kevin is just a dude with a computer whose interest lies in sneakers and fashion.

Hypebeast is almost synonymous with BAPE at Niketalk.com in terms of popularity, a forum centered around sneaker-philes who collect Jordans, Dunks, Air Force Ones, and other exclusive sneakers and clothing brands. When he first began blogging he simply used it as a catalog for things that interested him, like your friends who updated their Xangas with the products they last purchased from the last place they've been. The name "hypebeast" came across him in the Niketalk forums and he liked it as it sounded funny, too. He checked whether the domain name was taken and it wasn't so he bought it and never looked back. The site went viral pretty fast which could possibly accounted for by the large community base at Niketalk, but Kevin really doesn't know how it spread so fast and so widely. Nike took notice to Ma's influence and asks him to post items (probably receiving exclusive materials of his own). His site gets about 60,000 hits a day and the advertising revenue and small-fame has allowed him to mingle with people like Hiroshi Fujiwara and Stash, who are plastered in magazines. Blogging ain't easy for Ma. Hypebeast is based out in Hong Kong and he wakes up at 1pm and doesn't sleep until 5am, trying to find the hottest new items for posting on a daily basis before the blog readers and visitors in NYC wake up. Like any other normal person Kevin used to work a 9-5 bank job. His site has received offers from many other companies, but Kevin says, "You don't just sell your baby, do you?"

-- This posting was inspired by pg. 72 of Complex Magazine (June/July 2007)

The new do's and don'ts for your good health - Consumer Reports

Found in the May 2007 Issue of Consumer Reports (pg. 19)

Do flatten your belly with breakfast.
Adults who eat breakfast regularly are four times less likely to be obese than people who skip breakfast.

Don't worry about a stress test to protect your heart
Most people can do without this test which can yield too many false-positive results.
